Ideas.

If I was picture would you look at me
|
||
If I was a mirror would you stare back at me
|
Girl looking into the mirror and boy standing behind but no
reflection on the boy in the mirror.
|
|
If I was a poster on your wall would you worship me
|
||
If I was you, would you love me
|
||
But I'm still here, I'm always here and I've been waiting here so
long
|
Walking down the streets, everyone else a blur(time lapse) and the boy
walking behind the girl, she turns round he’s not there, turns back he’s
there
|
|
Cause I was the new boy and you were my new girl
|
School: boy walks in the door and looks at the girl with a smile and
she looks back with a smile, he sits next to her
|
|
I really loved you I would have given you the world
|
Flash backs of them having fun together
|
|
But now you’re out there
|
Back to the streets
|
|
And I'm here on my own
|
||
I keep on calling but you never answer your phone
|
He calls her but her phone doesn't ring later she looks there’s no
missed call
|
|
Cause I'm still here, how am I here, I don’t wannabe here no more
|
||
I can’t stay here this is not easy

If I was you, would you love me

Proposal draft
Proposal:
Song: If I was
Artist: Jack Leon Colton
Tagline:
Plot/synapse:
The video is a narrative about a boy and girl that meet in
school and a relationship blossoms until one day after a few years they go
their separate ways. The girl has moved on but the boy is still in love with
the girl and refuses to give up. The music video is from the boys prospective,
following the girl around but she doesn’t seem to notice him.
The genre is a pop/indie song with acoustics and location is mainly on streets. There will be little or no lip syncing just the story being told through the visuals.
The video will be a narrative, some visuals will match the lyrics, but not all. For the video I plan to use a male and female aged around 14-16 for the main characters and then extra of similar ages.

Toby Lockerbie- Director

Toby Lockerbie http://www.tobyloc.com/index.html
I chose Toby because I really liked the Rizzle Kicks videos and then found out Toby was the director of their videos.
Toby has directed Rizzle Kicks videos since 2010 and has worked with them ever since. Toby likes clever, creative and engaging cinematic film so has tried to incorporate these into the music videos for Rizzle kicks as well as other smaller commercial videos he has produced.
.
The three to the left I have chosen for the camera angles, in a lot of RK's video's they have a range of camera angles ranging from high to low, low to high, mid shots, establishing shots and close ups etc and to the left are some examples of them. The pictures to the left are also examples of light, some are much brighter than others for example the top and the bottom left are very dark whereas the middle and the bottom right are much brighter especially the bottom as it is taken from the same video from outside yet more light is on his face in the right image
The screen shot to the left is another camera angle that has been used which is a panoramic view which i find very interesting as it is very different to the rest of the video and again gives off the quirky style to their videos and style
The final two above and to the left are performance shots and lip sinking which is also very common in a lot of their videos. In parts of every RK video there is either link sinking or some form of performance shot whether it is fake studio/studio or a live performance of them on tour.

Kinky boots, transition project!
Location: The locations of our project where all different places and lighting conditions, some were filmed inside classrooms, shops and some outside in the city or around college. We made sure there was a fair amount of light present in our shots. However I don't feel that the places we filmed were very good locations so when i film my music video i will think about the location and try get an even bigger range of places so that there is a variety.
People: We also chose to use a range of people in our video to do the boop boops as this was the key lyrics we focused on as it came up a lot in the song, and instead of getting the same person to do it each time we wanted to make it more fun and get lots of people to do it whether that was a group or individuals. In order to do this we went around college and asked lots of people if they would be interested in being in our short music video, we had a lot of people that said no but a fair amount that said yes. Then from these we selected the ones we thought that worked best and edited them to fit the rest of our video as well as the lyrics.
Camera: We used a college camera in order to film the footage, this camera is a good camera for filming. We chose to use different camera angles too such as establishing shot, close ups, medium close ups. We also used panning for a part of our footage where we were following the girls round although most of our footage was filmed using a tripod and was still in order to get a non julty and no hand held camera effect.
Footage: Not only did we experiment with different camera angles we also experimented with lip syncing and fitted this with the lyrics when we were editing, this was quite hard because we had to get it spot on so that both the footage and the music were in time with each other.
Editing: when we were editing we tried out a few techniques that were unfamiliar to us as this was the first time we had used any media editing software, for the editing we used premier pro . we started off by selecting the relevant footage in each take we took by pressing 'I' for in and 'o' for out once it was selected we placed it on the timeline and this is where we overlapped some of the footage by placing it under one another to prevent it jumping from once take to another, this made it smoother and more like a continuous shot. We also tried out the motion option on our footage, this is where we speeded up parts of our footage such as the part where the girl is walking towards the camera on the ramp.
We used parts of our footage and cut it so that we could place half of it in one place of our video and the other half a little later on so that it linked the video together with the same shot being played.
What I have learnt: From doing this project I have learnt a lot more about a cam corder (the basics) and the basics of editing using premier pro which will help me when it comes to editing my music video although a lot of the techniques will need improving to make a good, high standard music video.
Diane Railton and Paul Watson's- Genre and the music video.
Music video and the politics of representation- genre and the music video.
Diane and Paul said that the most important element of categorising genres is selecting common and similar properties, this way of categorising has a specific purpose and is always done for a reason. Genres are one of the main things that helps sell a product as it is about taste therefore if someone likes a certain genre that is the genre they will continue to buy and listen to and will look for more music which is in this category.
‘Genre, whatever else it might be, is first and foremost about categorisation, about sortingcultural products into discrete groupings based on similarities and common properties. Moreover, this act of categorisation is always purposeful. In other words, this process isdone for a specific reason, whether that reason is socio-economic, cultural or academic. Inthe first place, from an industrial standpoint, genre performs specific economic functionsin so far as it works to organise the financing, production and marketing of culturalproducts so as to ensure maximum return from investment. For consumers, genre is oneof the principal ways of choosing which products to buy in the first place and also perhapsthe key marker of taste – a means of expressing likes and dislikes and identifying andcommunicating with like-minded people. In academic discourse, the concept of genre ismulti-functional. For not only are the socio-economic and cultural aspects of genre afocus of analysis across a number of disciplines, but the notion of genre is also mobilised asa way of rationalising the study of popular culture; defining the parameters of a form; as amodel of textual explication; and as a way of theorising how those texts are understood inthe process of consuming them. Indeed, it is precisely this multifunctionality that leads tothe idea that genre is a kind of conceptual golden thread, seemingly capable of describingthe whole process of creating, selling and consuming cultural products as well as providinga critical framework through which both this process and individual texts can beinterpreted and explained. And it is precisely this standard view of genre that becomes de-stabilised when we consider music video, for its role as a secondary product’
Andrew Goodwin
Andrew Goodwin's music video theory.
Andrew said there was 5 key aspects to music videos these are:
-thought beats- seeing the sound.
- Narrative and performance
- The star image
- Relation of visuals to a song.
- Technical aspects of a music video
in other words he said:
There is a relationship between the lyrics and the visuals, this means that the meanings to the lyrics are clearly shown in the video, the video is doing exactly what the lyrics say/person is singing.
There is a relationship between the music and the visual this means that if the song is slow then the pace of the video will also be slow, or if the song is about a certain place it is likely that the video will be set in that place.
Particular music genres have their own music video style. For example a lot of hip hop songs include females showing a lot of flesh and skimpy outfits.
Lots of close ups of the artist (demand from the record label) this is a way of advertising the artist.
Artists have their own star image which we as the audience expect to see in all video's as well as outside of videos for example Micheal Jacksons white glove.
There is likely to be an element of voyeurism meaning they are observing something they are not part of or watching something you wouldn't normally watch. There is also normally a male gaze in many music videos although there is now becoming a female gaze in a lot of newer media.
Andrew also said that there is 3 main styles of music videos, these are: Narrative, performance and concept.
-Narrative music videos generally have a direct interpretation, they are like a short film with a clear beginning, middle and end.
-Performance music videos are where we see the artist/band either live in their music video, playing an instrument to the camera or in some form of studio whether it is real or set up.
-Concept music videos normally have no direct link or relationship between the visuasl or lyrics, they're often surreal and entropic; hard to figure out the meaning.
